 The Strandfontein Under 14 Football Tournament by the Sea, held at the Strandfontein Sports Complex, proved to be an exciting and competitive event that brought together some of the brightest young football talent from across the region. Taking place in a stunning coastal setting, the tournament provided an unforgettable experience for both players and spectators alike. The tournament ran from 21st March 2025 to 23rd March 2025, showcasing thrilling football action in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.

Tournament Format

This year’s tournament featured 25 boys’ teams and 5 girls’ teams, with a unique format designed to increase the excitement. The boys competed in 7 group stages, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Champions knockout stage. The third-placed teams from the groups were placed in the Plate knockout section. The girls’ tournament, on the other hand, featured a single group stage, with the top two teams advancing to the Champions knockout final, and the 3rd and 4th placed teams moving to the Plate knockout final.

Venue

The Strandfontein Sports Complex offered a perfect environment for both players and fans. The weather was great, there was a buzz and vibe around the grounds, the fans cheering passionately for their teams and a festival-like atmosphere throughout the event.

  • Boys Team Fair Play Award: Wolverhampton FC, who displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
  • Girls Team Fair Play Award: Greenwood Girls, whose positive attitude and respect for the game earned them the fair play honor.

  • Boys Champions: Wolverhampton FC emerged as the champions of the boys’ tournament after a series of impressive performances, culminating in a well-deserved victory.

  • Boys Runners-Up: Bayhill United fought hard but ultimately finished as the runners-up in a thrilling final.
  • Girls Champions: Ubuntu Academy were crowned champions of the girls’ tournament, showing incredible skill and teamwork throughout.
  • Girls Runners-Up: Greenwood Athletic finished as the runners-up in the girls’ competition after a competitive final.

  • Ubuntu Football Academy’s boys’ team, considered tournament favorites, were surprisingly eliminated in the quarter-finals by FC Kapstadt with a 2-1 loss. It was an upset that left many fans stunned, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the competition.
